Since its debut in 2017, the Tata Nexon has played a key role in redefining the compact SUV segment in India. It was Tata’s first car to follow the IMPACT design philosophy and quickly became one of the best-selling SUVs in the country.
Over the years, the Nexon has undergone multiple updates, including the introduction of its electric avatar in 2020. Thanks to its 5-star safety rating, stylish design, rich feature set, and wide powertrain options, the Nexon continues to be a customer favourite.
Now, with the competition heating up in the sub-4 metre SUV space, Tata Motors is gearing up for the biggest update yet — a brand-new generation of the Nexon, scheduled to launch in the second half of 2026. While official details are limited, here’s what we can expect from the 2026 Tata Nexon.
Highlights Expected launch: Second half of 2026 Based on a reworked version of the X1 platform Likely to retain current petrol and diesel engine options Major styling changes and ADAS tech expected New Platform, Familiar Foundation The upcoming Nexon will be based on a heavily re-engineered version of the existing X1 platform. This is the same architecture that underpinned earlier Tata models like the Bolt and Zest, and continues to serve as the foundation for the current Nexon. However, for the 2026 model, Tata Motors is expected to update this platform extensively to support modern-day features and improved dynamics. Features like electronic power-assisted steering and speed-sensitive steering will be standard.
Fresh Design Inside and Out Expect a significant leap in terms of styling. The next-gen Nexon could borrow design elements from Tata’s new-age concepts like the Curvv and Sierra EV. With bolder lines, sharper headlamps and an even more premium stance, the SUV is expected to make a strong visual statement.
Inside the cabin, Tata could introduce several premium and tech-loaded features. These may include a larger infotainment system with an upgraded iRA connected car suite, auto-dimming IRVM, rear disc brakes, a high-end audio setup, and possibly even a full-fledged ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) package to stay ahead of the curve.

Powertrains Likely to Stay Unchanged The engine options for the next-gen Nexon are expected to remain the same as the current model. That includes the 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine delivering 120PS and 170Nm, and the 1.5L turbo diesel engine producing 115PS and 260Nm. The diesel variant, however, may continue to be offered only in select higher trims. The petrol version is likely to continue with manual and DCA (dual-clutch automatic) options.
Conclusion With its major overhaul planned for 2026, the Tata Nexon is all set to strengthen its hold in the subcompact SUV segment. While the powertrain may stay familiar, the changes in design, platform and tech could make the 2026 Nexon a game-changer for Tata once again. Stay tuned as more details are expected to surface closer to launch.
