As petrol prices continue to rise, more Indian car buyers are looking toward cost-effective alternatives. One segment that has benefitted the most from this shift is CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) vehicles. From compact hatchbacks to practical MPVs and stylish SUVs, automakers are rolling out CNG options across categories.
In fact, the CNG segment’s market share in India has tripled over the past few years, growing from 6.3% in FY2020 to a remarkable 19.5% in FY2025. Here’s a list of the top 10 best-selling CNG cars in India between April 2024 and March 2025.
Highlights
Maruti Suzuki dominated the top 10 list with 7 entries.
Tata and Hyundai managed to make strong appearances.
The Maruti Ertiga CNG was the highest-selling CNG car in FY2025.
Tata Nexon became the first turbo-CNG SUV on the list.
With 1,29,920 units sold, the Maruti Ertiga CNG topped the list. Priced from ₹11,00,499 (ex-showroom, Delhi), this bi-fuel MPV offers 26.11 km/kg fuel efficiency. It’s a popular choice for families and fleet buyers alike.

Tata Motors made its mark with two models. The Punch CNG claimed the fourth position with 71,113 units. Though its fuel efficiency is lower at 26.99 km/kg, the Punch’s micro-SUV styling and practical features make it attractive.
The Nexon CNG is noteworthy as the only turbocharged CNG car on the list. Tata sold 34,712 units of the Nexon CNG, priced from ₹8,99,990. It offers a mileage of 24 km/kg.
Hyundai Aura: A Solid Performer
Hyundai’s only entry, the Aura CNG, delivered 49,464 units and provides 28.4 km/kg fuel economy. Priced from ₹7,54,800, it remains a sensible option in the sedan segment.
Maruti’s Continued Dominance
Other Maruti models such as the Vitara Brezza (70,928 units), Eeco (59,520 units), Fronx (42,051 units), and Baleno (24,220 units) reinforce the brand’s stronghold in the CNG space. Each of these offers a blend of affordability, reliability, and decent fuel efficiency (ranging from 25.5 km/kg to over 30 km/kg).
Conclusion
FY2025 proved to be a turning point for the CNG car segment in India. With growing environmental awareness and rising fuel costs, consumers are increasingly seeing CNG as a smart alternative to petrol. As manufacturers like Tata, Maruti, and Hyundai continue to innovate and expand their CNG lineups, the segment is set to grow even further in the coming years.
