Mahindra has built a strong reputation in the Indian SUV market with models like the Scorpio, XUV700, Bolero, and Thar. With the introduction of the new XUV 3XO earlier this year, Mahindra added another feature-packed compact SUV to its lineup. Now, the company has surprised everyone with a massive price drop of Rs 4 lakh on the XUV 3XO! But before you get too excited, there’s an interesting twist that Indian buyers need to know.
XUV 3XO Launched in Australia – At a Lower Price
The XUV 3XO hasn’t received a direct price cut in India. Instead, Mahindra has launched the SUV in the Australian market, where it is now the most affordable Mahindra SUV available. The XUV 3XO in Australia starts at AUD 23,490, which roughly translates to Rs 13.18 lakh. In comparison, the same AX5 L variant in India starts around Rs 17 lakh (on-road), meaning a notable difference of nearly Rs 4 lakh.
This aggressive pricing is clearly aimed at giving Mahindra an edge in the competitive Australian compact SUV market. However, the company has made a few compromises to keep the price in check.

What’s Missing in the Aussie Version?
While the design and features remain largely the same as the Indian version, the Australian-spec Mahindra XUV 3XO does come with a few changes under the hood.
In India, Mahindra offers the XUV 3XO with three powertrain options:
- 1.2L Turbo Petrol MPFi (110 bhp, 200 Nm)
- 1.2L Turbo Petrol TGDi (129 bhp, 230 Nm)
- 1.5L Diesel (115 bhp, 300 Nm)
However, in Australia, Mahindra is only offering the MPFi petrol engine. That means the more powerful TGDi engine and the diesel option are missing. Additionally, the top-end AX7 L variant doesn’t get the popular Stealth Black color in Australia.
