Mahindra FY2025 Sales: Mahindra & Mahindra, one of India’s largest SUV manufacturers, has reported strong performance in the fiscal year 2025 (April 2024 to March 2025), with a total of 5,51,487 utility vehicles sold. While this marks a robust 20 percent growth over FY2024’s 4,59,877 units, a key takeaway is the continued dominance of diesel-powered SUVs in Mahindra’s portfolio.
Highlights
Diesel variants made up 77.12% of Mahindra’s total SUV sales in FY2025.
XUV 3XO is the only SUV in Mahindra’s lineup where petrol variants outsold diesel.
Mahindra sold over 12,000 electric vehicles during the fiscal.
Scorpio Classic + Scorpio N remain the brand’s top diesel performers with over 1.5 lakh units sold.
Diesel Still King for Mahindra
Out of the 5.51 lakh total utility vehicles Mahindra sold in FY2025, 4,25,329 were diesel-powered. This includes 166 units of the Marazzo MPV. Diesel SUVs alone accounted for 77.12% of total sales. In comparison, petrol variants stood at 1,13,268 units (20.54%) and electric vehicles at 12,890 units (2.34%).
Among the top diesel performers were the Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic, which together contributed a staggering 1,53,395 units. This makes the Scorpio the single largest diesel SUV contributor for Mahindra. Likewise, the Bolero range (including Neo) contributed 94,750 units and the Thar range – powered predominantly by the 2.2-litre diesel – saw 93 percent of sales go to diesel variants.
Interestingly, the newly launched XUV 3XO is the only model where petrol variants outsold their diesel counterparts. Out of the total petrol sales, 69,496 units came from the XUV 3XO alone, followed by 22,910 units of the XUV700 and 11,447 petrol-powered Scorpio N units. Even the Thar range contributed 3,235 petrol units, and the lifestyle-oriented Thar Roxx added another 6,180 units.
The XUV 3XO offers two petrol engine options – a 1.2L three-cylinder turbo and a more powerful 1.2L direct-injection turbo – helping it appeal to a broader urban audience. On the other hand, Mahindra’s larger SUVs such as the Scorpio and XUV700 are equipped with a 2.0L four-cylinder turbo petrol engine tuned for higher performance.
While still a small part of Mahindra’s overall portfolio, the EV segment posted some encouraging figures. A total of 12,890 electric SUVs were sold in FY2025, with the XUV400 contributing 4,860 units and the remaining 8,000+ units coming from the newer BE 6 and XEV 9e electric SUVs. Together, EVs accounted for 2.34 percent of the brand’s overall sales.
This shows that Mahindra is gradually expanding its EV footprint, and with the upcoming Born Electric lineup set to expand further in FY2026, a larger EV market share is expected in the near future.
In summary, while Mahindra is making strides in petrol and electric vehicle segments, the numbers speak clearly: diesel still drives the brand’s momentum in India. With changing regulations and fuel preferences, it remains to be seen how long diesel can maintain its throne.
