Kia has officially teased its upcoming Carens Clavis EV just weeks ahead of its scheduled price reveal on July 15, 2025. The new electric version of the popular MPV retains the familiar design of its ICE sibling but brings with it subtle EV-focused tweaks and a claimed range of 490km on a single charge.
With this, Kia is gearing up to enter the growing electric MPV segment in India, where it will compete directly with models like the BYD eMax 7.
Highlights:
Claimed range of 490km, expected from larger battery pack
New floating centre console and wireless charging pad inside
Subtle design updates including new aero alloy wheels and revised bumper
Launch set for July 15, 2025, with expected pricing between ₹18 lakh – ₹24 lakh (ex-showroom)
Powertrain & Range
Although Kia has yet to officially reveal battery specifications, industry insiders suggest that the Carens Clavis EV is likely to borrow its battery pack and motor from the Hyundai Creta Electric.
The Creta EV comes with two battery options: a 42kWh unit with 390km of range and a larger 51.4kWh battery offering 473km of range. In the case of the Carens Clavis EV, the higher 490km claimed range likely comes from the larger battery pack, hinting at better energy efficiency or tuning.
Power is expected to come from a 171hp, 255Nm front-mounted electric motor — the same one used in the Creta Electric. While performance numbers haven’t been revealed yet, expect the Carens EV to offer brisk acceleration and smooth urban drivability typical of modern EVs.
At first glance, the Carens Clavis EV looks quite similar to its ICE-powered counterpart. However, a closer look reveals a few notable changes. These include a reworked front bumper with a sealed-off grille area, a centrally positioned charging port, and silver accents beneath it. The vehicle also gets new dual-tone aero-optimized alloy wheels and cube-shaped LED fog lamps for a sharper, futuristic look.
Inside, Kia has introduced a new floating-style centre console which replaces the traditional gear lever with a more open and minimalist design. This layout frees up storage space and houses a fresh wireless charging pad along with a few touch-sensitive controls. The dashboard layout remains familiar with twin 12.3-inch screens, but the EV version now sports a different interior colour scheme for a more tech-forward feel.
Seating & Variants
The teaser confirms a 7-seater layout for now, but there’s no official word on whether a 6-seater variant will also be offered like on the ICE top-spec Clavis trims. Given the premium positioning of this EV, multiple seating options could be on the cards post-launch.
The Kia Carens Clavis EV will be launched on July 15, 2025. Pricing is expected to start at around ₹17.99 lakh and go up to ₹24.5 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it in direct competition with the BYD eMax 7 and upcoming MPV-based EVs in India.
With a strong brand presence and growing EV infrastructure, the Carens Clavis EV could be a compelling option for buyers looking for a spacious, long-range electric MPV.
